I think that the Twins are matching up pretty well and this could be an opportunity to break the string of away loosing series against the Yankees and the AL East

Unfortunately, the Twins apparently didn't get the memo that this year's Yankees aren't very good. Maybe they'll manage to actually win a game when the Yanks come to town. But probably not.

At least so far they have been close games. I am really surprised by the power that the Twins have been shown recently but the pen (and its use) need fixing. Hopefully Slowey will stop the bleeding tomorrow...

Could sure use a strong outing by Slowey. The first two games was where we matched up most favorably.
A good game from our entire pitching staff has to happen at some point.
How 'bout Sunday?

Marv,

sounds good. How about a complete game shutout? :)

thrylos,

What's ridiculous about the power Mauer, Morneau and Kubel are showing is they're also maintaining a high batting average.

In Mauer's case, ridiculously high, but, hey, at some point, he'll drop below .400...

Blake,

not that it is likely to happen, but can you imagine Mauer maintaining a .400+ BA and not having enough PA to qualify?

With Kubel, M & M hitting like they are, having Young or someone else (Gomez?, Cuddyer, even?) start swinging a hot bat should lead to a healthy numbers of runs scored. I heard yesterday that at one point the Twins were 0 for 16 with RISP. however. A statistical anomaly, hopefully.
As always, it comes down to pitching. The Twins have got to start shutting opponents down.

And thry - If Mauer was > .400 in September I suspect he'd be in every day, catching or DH. Gardy may even bat him 1st or 2nd if there was really a shot at .400.

Marv,

I got to run the numbers at some point soon, but Cuddyer is probably leading the bigs by a big margin on runners left on base. He left six yesterday...

thrylos,

I'm going with your earlier assessment of Cuddyer, that his recent string was merely an oscillation, not a trend.

The Twins have been terrible with RISP in NY.

Well, another losing series in NY. The hitting really let down the pitching today.

Blake,

that 4-5 game streak was a fluke. The guy is done, plus he has been horrible on the bases twice in two days. I think it is about time for Smith to trade him for anything.

Thrylos,

One thing to take away from this series is: The Yankees kept flirting with disaster. They could easily have lost by huge margins.

If I'm the manager, I'm concerned, because the Yankees have been lucky to win these games.

I can't imagine any team really looking at Cuddyer and not thinking that they may as well give those at bats to a kid.
Also, I don't think Gardy sees Cuddy's recent spurt as an aberration. I believe he thinks this is the real Cuddyer.
We shall see.

I cannot believe Redmond was used as a pinch hitter instead of Morales.

Yeah, I know he's a veteran, but, his pinch hitting line is terrible.

Good grief.

Redmond should be cut when Delmon returns. There is not much left there and his use by Gardy is hurting the team.

Cuddyer has been horrid in the Yankees series. That HR is not redeeming. He needed about 6 of those to make up for his mistakes on the field, and the base paths and the rest of his plate appearances. He is just not an average player any more.
